Any other Oppos on DriveTribe yet? I know, there’s a problem that you have to use facebook to sign in, which is unfortunate and I hope not long-lived. But I’m curious. And a little bit shamelessly self-promoting.

One of these things is not like the other.....

I like the overall format, I think. The platform feels very glitchy to me right now, but then, kinja... well kinja has at least been around a while. They’re definitely working hard to improve it, though it will never “replace” oppo for me, nor should it for you.

First impressions are that it is like Oppo in the way that you can have a personal blog (your tribe) but things that you write can (will?) be posted to the main page. Then, as things become popular, they rise to the top in a few interesting ways. If you sit on the home page and hit F5 every 15 seconds, something new comes up every time. Interesting. I think.

Anyway, I created a tribe that’s about boats, because they’re closely related to cars, and compared to most of the enthusiast crowd, I don’t know much about cars - but I do know a lot more about boats than the average person, having managed a marina for 8 years; I also grew up around them.

So anyway, I’m just curious if any of you are over there checking things out - I know it’s not fully launched yet, but some do have early access. And if you are, please do !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! if it’s something that interests you. I called it Bust Out Another Thousand, because BOAT.

For me, I’m just thrilled to put my mind on something other than politics, and I haven’t had time to watch the new Grand Tour yet... so here I am.

I was going to give it a shot, but they only accept Facebook logins at the moment.

Maybe that will change and they’ll include Twitter/G+, or a username/password in the future.

I think you had to apply early, and by apply I mean, fill out a simple online form... but I think it will go live in the near future, if I had to guess. It seems mostly built-out. And it’s getting pretty active, too.

Exactly my thoughts, I assume they will add at least Google sign-in. Hopefully soon? Hopefully before public launch.

Thanks for joining, I joined yours also. Looks like some cool stuff in there. I like the format and the inclusion of content from all over the world. It will be interesting to see how they handle tribes that are inactive after a few months, or if they will just sort of settle to the bottom, so to speak. I’m not sure if mine will even get off the ground but I’ll try. Maybe I’m too far off topic, who knows?

It’s interesting to see content from all over the globe unlike most “forums” that are a bit too specific of a topic for me. I like being able to float from offroad to vintage race cars to motorcycles. We’ll see. I feel like some folks who can make some pretty professional content will start to dominate the space.

We’ll see what happens when the general public is able to sign in. It will either go nuts or become a mess. Haha!

Yeah, it will be interesting. I do sort of feel like it will be like if oppo and Jalopnik became one - the popular stories would push all the other stuff aside, and the “best” contributors would dominate the conversation. That’s not necessarily bad I guess?? But yeah I like how it’s got a variety of stuff right now. It’s like a solution to the themes that can easily take over Oppo for a day. There’s a home for each theme... more or less.

Agreed! I find that there are some really popular ones I have no interest in, but in general I have a nice smattering of content from all over. We’ll see how it works out!
I noticed that they already changed the ability to repost your own posts. Good idea because some folks were reposting their own content on every page. Good advertising trick, but not so good for viewing.
